My first public DJ performance!

April 8th, 2010

This was the scene at a club in Asbury Park NJ late last month. It was a party for an organization called Spoke & Art, which is a collective of Jersey artists who like to ride bicycles. And party!

I played all vinyl, and did an hour long set. I also mixed in a song or two and scratched during my buddy DJ Zero’s set. It was really fun. At first it felt like it was going to be a big, loud, empty room. But a bunch of people showed up and everybody danced! I recorded it for posterity. I think I did a decent job of trying to beatmatch the songs, but, on the same foot, I will not be uploading my set and sharing it with the world. I’ve got a lot of room for improvement. It was a rad night though. On to the next!

New. Single. Out. Now-ish…

B+H Now! by Hidden Driveways

Happy New Year everybody!

Hey, check this out… my old band from the 90’s got played as segue music on NPR recently:

Syrup USA on Marketplace 12/17/2009 by Hidden Driveways

It’s from the December 17th airing of Marketplace. I guess the music editor there felt that our music really suited the “new face of homelessness.” Joking aside, this is really awesome. It just goes to show you that once you finish a piece of music, that it takes on its own little life. This song is from a live radio show (WMBR’s Pipeline) and it was released on a compilation CD in 1996. 13 years later our song makes it’s way onto National Public Radio. Keep the dream alive, people!

Woah! I won the Genelec Video Contest by 1 vote!!

August 31st, 2009

I was informed at 8:02 AM this morning that I won the 2009 Genelec Video Contest!!!! My prize is a pair of 8020B speakers and a 7050B subwoofer! In layman’s terms, I won over $2000 of awesome stuff!!

What’s even more amazing is that I think I won by just one vote. In order to win the contest, you needed the highest rated video on YouTube at midnight on August 15th, 2009. There was another video about a bug’s eye that was doing really well in the ratings on YouTube. From the moment I entered the contest, I was behind the bug eye video… even going into 11 PM on the evening of the 15th.

To my amazement, in the final stretch, a few minutes before midnight, my video pulled ahead of my competitor, just by a hair. At the stroke of midnight, I had achieved a 1 vote lead. Here are screen shots of the standings at the midnight finish line:

So if you voted for me, I thank you profusely! Every single vote that was cast was the very same vote that won the competition. Because of you, I will be pumping mad booty bass in my apartment for decades to come!! Boooom!!!

If you like it, PLEASE log-in to YouTube and give me 5 stars! If you do, I just might win some killer speakers!

Safety Dance Remix!!!

July 11th, 2009

Here’s a Safety Dance remix that you can play at your next fiesta!

I recorded the vinyl into my computer, and just started messing around with the stereo file to create this remix. No acapellas, no individual tracks or stems, just the song we all know and love. It was really fun to make. I worked on it for a week and started each morning off with a black tea and a Polish doughnut. Good times!

I originally posted this remix in October of 2008.

Okay… so, I like screwed up my blog and stuff…

February 10th, 2009

I started this blog in 2008 to share my music projects with the outside world. I made a few posts, put my Men Without Hats remix up, and everything was going great.

Then I tried to make another blog for a different project, and I put the MySQL database thing in the wrong foldery thing, and BLAMO! All of the content on went to Bye-Bye-Village.

So now, I will recreate the site, step by stupid step. Hello world! I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’m gunna do it anyway.
